Participation in 4th APEA Conference

Asia Pacific Evaluation Association (APEA) hosted the 4th APEA Conference from 4th to 7th December 2023 in Manila, Philippines. The Conference was a part of EvalVisionAsia 2023 to celebrate the Asia Pacific’s accomplishments in 2023 and to prepare and welcome 2024. At the conference, the Chairperson of the Community of Evaluators – Nepal (CoE-Nepal) Mr. Prabin Chitrakar participated representing the organization. Mr. Chitrakar presented a presentation on Nepal’s Activities on Indigenous Evaluation in the session “Amplifying Indigenous Voices: Advancing Equity and Inclusion in Evaluation Practices” hosted during the conference.

Mr. Chitrakar in his presentation, presented the outcomes and learnings from the “One-day workshop on Indigenous Evaluation in Nepal” organized by CoE-Nepal on 6 August 2023. He highlighted the sessions of the workshop that focused on various aspects such as promoting Indigenous Evaluation in Nepal including ethical considerations. He shared the key outcomes of the workshop including; the collaboration and networking with organizations such as the Government of Nepal, UN Agencies, INGOs/NGOs, Universities, Indigenous evaluators, and evaluation experts; commitment of stakeholders for their initiatives on Indigenous evaluation. He further mentioned the achievement of the event to be the capacity enhancement through knowledge sharing and open dialogue; and recognition of the importance of aligning evaluation practices with indigenous values and priorities.

Mr. Chitrakar emphasized the necessity of the evaluation practices aligned with indigenous values, and outlined future activities that included; studying of current status and needs of M&E capacity enhancement of the local government of Nepal; enhancing the existing online repository with updated information and Indigenous values; conducting training and workshops to enhance the capacity of different sectors on Indigenous Evaluation; and formation of a National Network. Additionally, plans for policy dialogues with governmental bodies, and parliamentarians.

Besides participating in the session as a presenter, Mr. Chitrakar also participated in different side events during the conference.
